Our not-so-fun week

So I was presumptuous in thinking that Leyna was on the mend. After my last post she took a little turn for the worse. She was very lethargic and slept for about 3 1/2 hours on Wednesday morning after sleeping all night. When I would try to wake her up she would just say, "Leyna sleep". I even vacuumed near her head and that did not even phase her so I called the advice line again after failed attempts to get her to drink anything and got a 2:00 appt. We were then taken to the nurses' station again to get another IV, draw some blood and get a urine sample. The nurses were impressed that she could pee in a cup so that avoided a catheter or painful-to-remove pee bag. He blood work came back a little off (electrolytes of course from all the vomiting and diarrhea and her white blood cell count). Plus she did not perk up after this IV so they decided around 6 to admit her for the night. Since she had an IV we had to take a big limo (AKA ambulance) to the Kaiser Hospital less than 2 miles away. Katrina was so sad and didn't want us to go to the hospital and Leyna was screaming because she was in her carseat strapped to the table with men next to her. Not a fun ride for my first time in an ambulance. (Side note: Katrina was great both days that we were in the clinic and had fun watching all the movies they had there...that was a big blessing. She is getting to be such a big girl.)

Leyna and I ended up staying for two nights in our "luxurious Winnie the Pooh suite that had all the bells and whistles" literally lots of ringing and noise. :) Thankfully, she did awesome and slept great in her little crib that they had so I was able to sleep in the bed. If you've stayed in a hospital, you know that they come in all the time when you are "sleeping" to check things, take blood pressure, temperature, test the IV, etc. But Leyna seemed to sleep through most of it, with the exception of the 5:30am blood draw on Thursday(why so early?) and the 6:00am IV removal on Friday (today). For some reason the nurse decided to flush the IV for the first time since around 7pm (I guess it is supposed to be done every 8 hours or less) and since it was blocked (she slept without the IV running last night to see how she would do and to see if she could hydrate herself sufficiently) the nurse had to take it off right then. Well, the IV was taped onto her arm from her wrist to her armpit since she is 2 and they didn't want to run the risk of her taking it off or bending her arm...that was not fun trying to remove that tape for about 30 minutes, but Leyna both screamed and lived through it. Now we are home and she is sleeping in her own crib and seems to be doing good. She ate some Cheerios without milk this morning and a little applesauce. She has only had one bout of dia since last night so I think for sure we are on the mend now. When my kids are sick it makes me so thankful for their general good health and pray harder for my friends who have kids that are in the hospital or battle with recurring sickness.

No pictures this post since we are temporarily missing our camera. I will post some pics of our little girl after I get them downloaded from my parent's computer. Story about the camera and camping to follow another day.

I know how it is to see kids sick and in the hospital. I haven't had my own child in the hospital yet and have no idea what you went through. It must be so hard to see them sick and needing not fun stuff. Yeah for her being able to pee in a cup. That is good and saved her some more not fun stuff. I will for sure keep praying that she will recover quickly and get right back on to potty training and normal 2 year old stuff. Talk to you soon.

Poor Leyna. That does not sound like fun. Now I have something to look forward to: Lily's first flu!

Kim,

So we returned from our little trip a little while back, and it was such a treat to see all the blog posts you had up!!! :)

There have been so many events (some super fun and some not so much) I didn't know where to start commenting, so I'll start with this. Thanks for all the entertainment. :) Your little darlings are too cute!

Looking forward to your entire family being healthy, and to more fun posts! :)

Keep 'em coming...

oh Kim,

That sounds so terrible. I am so sorry she was so sick. I hate to see my children in pain and lethargic. I'm really glad she is eating now and keeping it down. We will keep praying for you guys.
